The iconic Mercurial soccer boot series is undergoing quite the renaissance this year. Eighteen years after its 1998 debut, the shoe is being reborn in two new styles. There’s the Air Max Mercurial R9, an everyday-wear shoe inspired by the game-changing cleat, and then there’s this: the Nike What the Mercurial.
In keeping with the amalgam theme of the “What the?!” series, the Nike What the Mercurial brings together elements of sixteen past Mercurial models and colorways. Four Mercurial logos are combined into one on heel-tabs and aglets, and the sockliner boasts various Mercurial elements, punctuating the eye-popping celebration of Mercurial heritage. The model itself that’s at the center of the bold new design is the Mercurial Superfly, so while the looks are truly jaw-dropping, performance isn’t lacking either.
The Nike What the Mercurial releases May 5, limited to just 3,000 pairs. Will you try to cop one?
