The Nike Kobe 11 Wolf Grey releases in a little under two weeks, the latest striking, kids-exclusive colorway of the model. The inspiration is . . . not quite what we thought.
With Kobe Bryant’s final season in the books, the two-tone grey colorway’s bright, multicolored heel pattern was thought to represent the off-air signal that TV stations used to broadcast when they shut down for the night. Instead, the color bars actually reflect those present while watching old VHS tapes, an homage to the Black Mamba’s US-based grandfather sending him basketball game tapes to study while growing up abroad.
Regardless of the slight storytelling discrepancy, the Nike Kobe 11 Wolf Grey still releases Friday, May 27, at stateside Nike Basketball accounts; retail’s $135.
