Nike just revived one of its classic marketing concepts: the simple image of a shoe, accompanied by a phone number that offers more information. And the ad is heralding the return of a shoe that’s just as classic.
According to Tinker Hatfield, the voice on the other end of the line when you call that number, the Nike Air Zoom Talaria will return on March 31! Details are still scarce, although there is one notable point: The word “remixed” is used, likely indicating some design changes to the classic runner. (Hopefully a bit subtler than the Talaria 2014, and surely not as different as the wildly underrated Talaria Boot.)
Stay tuned for details as they develop, and check out Tinker’s message in its entirety below.
Hi, Tinker Hatfield here. Back in 1997 I designed a shoe for runners, rather than people who merely run. Big difference. It was a hard shoe to develop, and my original design ended up not being technically possible. It did however introduce full-length, bottom-loaded Zoom technology and flex grooves. I’m happy to say it went on to be regarded as one of the best rides in road running.
So I’m both excited and proud to be the first to announce that NikeLab will bring back some fast from the past. We remixed the classic for all the sneakerheads who have been clamoring for its return.
So get ready. On March 31st, the Nike Air Zoom Talaria is coming back. And stay tuned, because it’s OK to be fast.
