Last season, FC Barcelona brought home its 23rd La Liga title and its seventh in ten years, becoming the first European team to ever win a second treble in the process, clinching La Liga, Copa Del Rey and UEFA Champions Leagues titles in the same year. So how does a team that already has everything celebrate? With new uniforms, of course.
When Barca opens Champions League play against AS Roma on Wednesday, they’ll do so in a bold new third kit. An evolution of the club’s famous “blau,” the new look puts a vivid spin on that iconic shade of blue.
A pale, electric blue covers the shorts and shirt, fading into gradient black on the knees and cuffs, an effect that was designed specifically for how the floodlights at night games will accentuate players’ physical presence.
Of course, as is always the case with Nike Football (Soccer), the devil’s in the details. Names and numbers are in a custom typeface that’s inspired by the sentinel chimneys on Antoni Gaudi’s La Pedrera, an iconic piece of architecture in Barcelona, while a small Senyera (the Catalan flag) appears on the right sleeve, representing Barca’s connection to the area. Finally, the club’s motto is printed inside the collar — “Més Que Un Club,” or “More Than a Club.”
The new FC Barcelona third kit, dubbed “Night Rising,” will get its on-pitch debut September 16 against AS Roma. Take a closer look below and, as always, stay tuned to Nikeblog for plenty more football kits.
