Nearly twenty-five years ago, FC Barcelona bookended the 1991-92 season with a triumphant victory to take home the ’92 European Cup. Fast forward to present day, and the club will wear a new home look to honor the that historic achievement.
The new FC Barcelona home kit features the classic, distinctive aesthetics of the ’91-92 squad, but marries them to the innovative Nike Vapor Uniform with AeroSwift technology. The new shirt boasts Barca’s iconic vertical red and blue stripes, but they’re updated with subtle two-tone shading that nods to the look of that legendary championship team. A red stripe runs down under each arm, connecting through the solid-blue shorts for a cohesive look, and the sleeves and shoulders boast subtle navy and cobalt stripes.
Of course, this is a Nike uniform, so the devil’s in the details. The new FC Barcelona home kit employs subtle celebrations of the club, inside the shirt and out. “Barca” is knit into the back-collar, flanked by the Catalan flag, and “Un Crit” and “Valen” are emblazoned inside the right and left cuffs. Taken together they translate to “Our cry is bold,” a phrase that’s taken from the club’s official fan anthem, “Cant del Barca,” sung just before kickoff. Finally, the shirt’s new custom font is inspired by the curves and shapes of Barcelona’s world-class architecture.
The new FC Barcelona home kit is available at select worldwide retailers beginning May 30. Barca will wear it throughout the 2016-17 campaign.
