One of the football world’s most successful teams will sport a new look for the 2014 World Cup — a tournament for which they’re the host country, in fact — and today we get a first look at the new Brazil National Team kit.
Updating the uniform, one of the world’s most recognizable, with contemporary twists and tweaks, Nike’s aim was to create a kit that combined the “high speed brilliance” of Brazilian football with the culture of the country itself. Rather than a more traditional collar — be it crew, v-neck or polo-style — the new shirt features a Y-neck design that offers a more relaxed fit and ramped up comfort. That green collar stands in stark contrast to the yellow shirt, which also features an updated crest that’s a notch larger and employs metallic gold thread for a shimmering effect.
Behind the crest, inside the jersey, is printed “Nascido para jogar futebol” — “Born to Play Football” in Brasilian Portuguese — while the inner-back-neck of each jersey features a small yellow canary, representing the team’s nickname, “Canarinho.”
Below, the new Brazilian shorts are the classic varsity royal, beautifully contrasting the yellow shirt, and incorporate an innovative new construction that allows for a greater range of motion and enhanced comfort. And finally, the socks are classic white with a contrast green Swoosh.
