Kevin Durant may not have pioneered the concept, but he’s certainly a driving force in the eyeglasses-as-fashion-statement movement. He also happens to be one of Nike’s most influential, and well paid, endorsers. As such, it seems only too fitting that Durant is teaming up with the Swoosh’s Nike Vision optical line on a special collection of eyewear.
The new Kevin Durant Nike Vision collection will feature two unisex styles: the NK 7230 KD sunglass for adults, and the NK 5530 for teenagers and adults with petite builds. That both are pictured with clear lenses here is worth noting of course.
The NK 7230 KD will launch this month in three colors — Black/Noble Red, Tokyo Tortoise/Raw Umber, Midnight Navy/Tropical Teal — and retail for about $245. The design boasts a vintage-inspired square shape, lightweight acetate front with injected temples, and Durant’s “KD” logo on the inner temple.
The NK 5530 KD, launching in January 2015, will be offered in two colors: Navy/Tortoise-Tropical Teal and Black/Noble Red. Each will retail for about $185, and employs similar construction and technology to the 7230, including spring hinges, occipital fit temple design and KD logoing.
Why go forward with a KD glasses line? From Kevin Durant himself:
Since I wear glasses as part of my daily routine, it was a natural extension for me to become involved with eyewear. This is a new venture for me, and I’m excited for fans to see the final outcome of the product. As with my footwear, I haven’t compromised any technical details for aesthetics, and vice versa.
