When marathon world champion Abel Kirui toes the starting line on Sunday, he’ll be wearing this, the Kenyan marathon uniform designed by Nike.
The latest in Nike Considered eco-friendly engineering, the Kenya singlet is created entirely from recycled fabric, derived from the equivalent of three plastic bottles.
The Kenyan national colors are added to the singlet using a water-free dye process, cutting down on the average 100-150 liters of water that is typically used to process just 1 kilogram of textile material.
The innovative waterless dyeing, which utilizes recycled carbon dioxide, also produces 50-60% less carbon emissions than typical methods.
All Nike-sponsored track & field teams at the Olympics wear uniforms using the above processes.
