2012 marks the 30th anniversary of a basketball — and more so streetwear — icon: the Nike Air Force 1. While Nike Sportswear likely has some real heat planned to mark the occasion, we haven’t seen any anniversary-celebrating pairs yet besides the Year of the Dragon edition. As arguably the most iconic tennis player of her generation, Serena Williams is one of Nike’s most high-profile athletes. And so it only makes sense that Nike Tennis would select her, one of the biggest draws at the Australian Open, to wear a special edition line; one created to coincide with February’s Black History Month.

Inspired by the 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team, and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance running team, the Nike Black History Month Collection for Serena Williams consists of the Nike Sportswear BHM Destroyer Jacket, Nike BHM Seasonal Knit Jacket, Nike BHM C72 Bag and Nike BHM Air Max Mirabella 3, each sporting the special Black History Month logo and featuring a palette and design inspired by the culture and history that we celebrate in February.

Calling on a wealth of vintage style and classic themes from the 1970′s boom of US running, the new Nike Vintage Modern Hoodie Collection sports timeless looks with modern, performance-driven updates. While the AW77 hoodie is the most often recurring piece here, there are several other hoodies as well, each evoking images of Americana and a passion for running. To celebrate LeBron James at the same time that his new shoe, the LeBron 9, and new Nike Sportswear collection are releasing, Nike created “Never Stop: The LeBron James Issue” to be distributed to the media in physical print only. However the newsprint, which celebrates key moments in LBJ’s life, asks “what if?” in regards to a football career, and showcases various LeBron-themed products and events, is now available for download in PDF format right here. Releasing to select stores worldwide on December 1st, the special Nike (RED) x World AIDS Day collection was designed to help raise awareness of the toll the deadly disease is taking in Africa. As well as special edition Cheyenne backpacks and peacoat-style Destroyer jackets, a fantastic Nike (RED) Zoom Meriwether will hit stores, featuring a smooth black leather upper, white midsole and red on the laces and zipper. We debuted the new Nike LeBron True Colors collection a month ago, with some great shots of the apparel and shoes that will populate the more stylish, off-court set. And today I’m happy to announce we’ve got some in-stores shots of the gear, although as yet it has just appeared in Asian shops. We’re expecting these in US stores very soon, but in the meantime hit the jump for shots of the Nike TC LeBron AW77 full-zip hoody, Wool Destroyer Jacket, Air Force 1 Low and Air Max Conquer.

We’ve been talking for a while now about the Fall Collection from Gyakusou, a special brand created as a collaborative effort between Nike Sportswear and Undercover founder Jun Takahashi, and it’s finally starting to hit stores. (In Asia; the gear will only hit a handful of US retailers.) With Gyakusous, Takahashi puts an emphasis on both style and performance, so while the pieces are all eye-catching and fashionable, they’re also lightweight but protective; made to weather any elements without weighing down the wearer. The clothing from the Holiday 2011 LeBron James Nike Sportswear collection is shaping up really nicely, featuring plenty of stylish non-basketball-centric pieces, such as rugby shirts, pants, varsity jackets and the like. And what better way to see how the designs were intended, than by seeing LeBron James don the gear? Nike Sportswear continues its survey of fashion and sport in some of the world’s great cities with it’s “Look of Sport” series, checking in today with designer and architect Joseph Ng of Hong Kong. (OK, so “cities.”) Joseph takes us on a tour of his style and his city, including the volt Air Max 90 Hyperfuse and some of his favorite food spots. I expect the overlapping portion of the “European soccer fans & track jacket wearers” is somewhat significant (if you draw it I’ll post it), and it would appear that Nike knows it, with the introduction of several more Nike N98 Track Jackets, these ones all sporting the crests, colors and names of various UEFA clubs, including Inter Milan, Arsenal, Man U, FC Barcelona and Juventus. Elite hurdler Liu Xiang gets the superhero treatment in China, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Nike has designed a new collection around Liu, with the primary retail target being his home country. Set to release on September 1st, the LX Collection features several pieces, such as the Nike Free Run 2, LunarGlide 3 and a few different jackets, inspired by Liu himself and emblazoned with his graphic logo, “LX” logo and/or his name in Chinese characters. Best of all, the collection includes pieces designed for both men and women. The special edition packaging seen below is limited to a run of 86, mainly reserved for VIP’s although a lucky purchaser of an early-release pack tomorrow at Beijing Sanlitun Nike Store will have a shot at winning one. In honor of Nike’s recent revamp of the French national team’s soccer uniforms, the Swoosh has also begun France-izing some of Nike Sportswear’s more popular pieces, such as the recent denim Nike Dunk. And now it’s the new Nike French Football Federation Destroyer Jacket, which borrows the design of Nike’s classic Destroyer jacket, but adds in some French-specific detailing such as a white-based look with navy blue striping, matching up with Les Bleus’ away kits. The Nike Sportswear KOBE Collection had a big unveiling a few months back, then proceeded to fly under the radar a bit, based solely on small allocations to stores and only occasional releases. In terms of sheer looks and style, the collection as a whole probably should have been a hit, with great designs and something for everyone. Well look for it to return this fall, with two new pieces to start off: the Nike KOBE M-65 jacket, a great new take on the classic military coat, and the Nike KOBE t-shirt, a simple tee featuring the motto of the collection–Know, Originate, Battle, Elevate.

Nike Sportswear’s Canarinho collection is known for blending Brasil’s rich soccer heritage with the country’s unique style and culture, and the upcoming Nike Sportswear Fall 2011 Canarinho collection does not disappoint. The focus this time around, in addition to the intimidating spirit of the Brazilian national soccer team, is the logo of the little canary, the “canarinho” namesake.
