Every four years, to celebrate the latest Summer Games, Jordan Brand revives the Air Jordan 7 Olympic. That was the rumor again for the 2016 and, in theory, that’s the case. In practice, however, this year is looking very different.
Instead of the tried and true colorway, the Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate reimagines the classic style. The same colors are present and accounted for, simply switched up for a fresh new look. White and navy are evenly mixed over the leather upper, a look that’s closer to the Olympic VI than the VII.
But the usual bright red and navy accents keep things patriotic, down to the “9” emblazoned atop a flag graphic on each heel, 9 being MJ’s Olympics number. Finally, metallic gold accents embellish the tongue. What’s an Olympic VII without gold medal aspirations, after all?
The Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate releases August 16, just in time (probably) for the basketball medal ceremony in Rio.
