The Story Behind the Orange Nike KD VI “NYC 66”

Nike KD VI NY66

Enjoy a little visual inspiration with your hoops shoes? Want to hear the story of the orange KD VI, aka the Nike KD VI NYC 66?

If you have a good memory, namely a penchant for remembering specifics, you may have already mentally filled in the blanks. If so, congratulations and stop reading. If not . . .

The shoe hearkens back to the 2011 NBA lockout, when Kevin Durant played a now-legendary game at New York’s storied Rucker Park. In his first game at the Harlem landmark, playing as part of the Entertainers Basketball Classic, Durant scored 66 points, falling just two points shy of the EBC record. The story took the sports world by storm, and firmly entrenched KD as a Rucker legend.

Oh, and those colors. Durant did it all sporting a grey-lettered orange jersey, which is clearly represented in this grey-accented orange shoe. Hence, Nike KD VI NYC 66.
