NFL Jersey Sales: RG3 Sets Single-Season Record; 49ers Top Team

NFL Jersey Sales - RG3

Robert Griffin III had a great rookie season, both on and off the field. In addition to putting up dominant numbers en route to a playoff berth for Washington, RG3 was named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. And apparently, as skilled as he is on the gridiron, he’s even more impressive when it comes to commerce.

Griffin took first place in NFL jersey sales on NFLShop.com in the past season, the first year of the new NFL contract, edging out legends like Peyton Manning and Ray Lewis (2nd and 3rd, respectively). Moreover, he set a single-season record, more RG3 jerseys being sold in the past fiscal year than any other player in any year in league history.

Also notable, fellow rookie QBs Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson ranked 6th and 14th, respectively, and first-year starter Colin Kaepernick shot all the way up to 4th.

Lewis was the top-ranking non-QB, while Victor Cruz was second in that category (8th overall).

In terms of team ranks, while every squad that ranked 2nd through 6th resides in the Eastern time zone — Ravens, Giants, Redskins, Steelers, Patriots, respectively — the 49ers led overall team sales for the first time since at least 1979, buoyed by strong NFL jersey sales by guys like Kaepernick and Patrick Willis (10th).
