With the London Olympic Games set for this summer, Nike has drastically revamped the Team USA basketball uniforms, not only stepping up the looks but aiming to give the Yanks a competitive advantage by using the most technologically advanced textiles in the world to create a performance-boosting uniform
Taking the Nike Aerographics seen on college uniforms to the next level, Nike has used their entire bag of tricks to create their lightest jersey ever. The 3D-structured Dri-FIT fabric pulls sweat from the skin to to reduce cling, a “functional flock screenprint” inside the collar further manages sweat, while strategically placed hem vents and mesh panels enhance breathability and circulation without adding bulky stitching.
Meanwhile, the look of the jersey was just as high a priority, featuring a “signature pride” Nike Aerographic across the back and patriotic battle cry inside the neck. The jersey is finished off with red “USA” block-lettering, starkly contrasting the navy blue of the numbers, shoulders and name.
Finally, the shorts are perhaps the most impressive. Made of 100% recycled polyester materials, they also opt for the wicking qualities of Dri-FIT material. With a four-way stretch fabric to allow a full range of motion, and side panels with laser-cut perforations for circulation and ventiliation, the shorts weigh in at a staggering 14 ounces lighter than the typical shorts worn by pro players.
