It’s the end of January, which means that it’s time for the college basketball teams that are serious about earning a high seed in the NCAA Tournament (or earning a bid, for that matter) to play their best basketball. And dressing to impress can’t hurt either. As such, Nike will outfit nine iconic basketball programs (seven men’s and two women’s) in the new Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniform.
Exclusively designed for a select list of teams that have won National Championships while wearing Nike gear, the Hyper Elite Platinum-wearing teams will be the University of Arizona, Baylor University (women’s), Duke University, University of Florida, University of Kentucky, Syracuse University, The University of Connecticut (men’s and women’s) and University of North Carolina.
Much like Nike Football’s Pro Combat System of Dress college uniforms, the looks will get most of the attention here but the technology is truly an accomplishment as well. The short features laser perforations along the side for enhanced breathability, while sporting maximum comfort courtesy of the lightweight 4-way stretch woven design. A bonded hem detailing on the short and bonded back seam on the jersey’s neckline maximize comfort and fit. All in all, the uniform is five percent lighter than previous Hyper Elite uniforms. And as is expected with Nike Hyper Elite jerseys, the back panel features a Nike Aerographics panel, illustrating school-specific details.
The schools will wear the uniforms in special games beginning next week. Some of those match-ups include UConn vs. Notre Dame (1/29), Kentucky vs. Tennessee (1/31), Duke vs. Maryland (2/11), Baylor (women’s) vs. Texas A&M (2/11), Florida vs. Tennessee (2/11), Syracuse vs. USF (2/22), Arizona vs. UCLA (2/25), UConn (women’s) vs. Notre Dame (2/27) and UNC vs. Maryland (2/29).
