As you’re surely aware, upon its original release the Air Jordan 1 did not endear itself to the NBA and first-year commissioner David Stern. The colorful shoe (most NBA footwear at that point was white) was considered a uniform violation and earned Michael Jordan a fine of $5,000 per game, which Nike happily paid for him since the publicity generated was worth much more. The colors and Air Jordan line were eventually accepted if not embraced by the NBA, but this new Air Jordan 1 High “Banned” pays tribute to the early days of the Air Jordan, featuring black X’s over the Air Jordan logo to represent the NBA’s (failed) attempt to censor the shoe. No word on a release date yet, but rest assured I’ll pass it along as soon as I get it. Check out a couple more pictures under the cut. Via modern-notoriety.com.
