ESPN is reporting that Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu has confirmed the Ken Griffey, Jr retirement rumored at earlier in the day. Griffey is, in addition to being a legend on the baseball diamond, a big part of Nike’s history as his shoes, especially the Air Griffey Max 1, achieved some incredible mainstream popularity for a baseball/cross-trainer. Best of luck going forward to one of the all-time greats. It’s unclear what his role with the Mariners will be in the future, but he is expected to stay with the team in some capacity.
