The Shoes That Cost UCF $3 Million …

November 9th, 2009 · No Comments

… Actually I get kind of irritated when people think that the University of Central Florida now has to pay Adidas $3 million dollars. In fact they had a 6-year deal with the Three Stripes to have $3 million worth of apparel and footwear provided to them over the life of that contract, a deal which will now be canceled despite Adidas apparently having told UCF that Marcus Jordan’s Air Jordans would not be a problem. Anyway, these are what he’s wearing at the moment, the Air Jordan 12 Rising Sun Marcus Jordan PE. (I just threw in that last part actually, I don’t see anything unique to Marcus’s shoe to make it a PE.) I think UCF will take these super fly shoes plus the publicity—to a school whose most notable athletic achievement to date has been Daunte Culpepper playing football there—over the contract. And what are the odds that another company, perhaps even Jordan Brand or Nike, offers up a contract as soon as they’re legally allowed to? Pretty good. Photo by Jason Greene of the Orlando Sentinel.
