Nike Air Maxim 1 Red and Blue

In yet another Nike update, the iconic Air Max 1 (which in and of itself is having a pretty big year with OG retros, new safari colorways and a slew of women’s releases still-to-come) has been tuned up with recent Nike innovations to create a shoe that has the performance of current tech but takes its design inspiration from the classic Air Max runner.

While the silhouette on the Air Maxim 1 looks very familiar, closer examination shows an upper comprised heavily of flywire, giving it a lightweight feel and an almost translucent look. Inside, the Air Maxim 1 uses a three-piece injected Phylon midsole, providing the best possible cushion and support. All in all, the Air Maxim 1 weighs in at 10.1 ounces, an impressive 66% lighter than the Air Max 1. From a design standpoint, the shoe sports the same heal counter and rand for which the Air Max 1 is known.

Big ups to Nike here. They’ve taken a very recognizable classic and done it justice by simply updating the technology without significantly altering the aesthetic appeal. The Nike Air Maxim 1 first releases on a wide scale in grey/white-red and grey/white-blue in the Fall line, which should put them in stores this month. There’s also a quickstrike black Air Maxim 1, but at the moment it’s looking like a Euro release.
