The Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that the Grizzlies have agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with Darius Miles. The Grizzlies will have until January 7th to decide whether they’d like to keep him on for the rest of the season, which would be disastrous for the Portland Trailblazers. Because the Blazers waived Miles due to what was classified as a “career-ending injury,” his $9 million annual salary does not count against their books. If Miles plays ten games this season though, his $18 million over the next two years will count against Portland’s salary cap. D-Miles will begin his tenure with the Grizzlies by serving a ten-game suspension for violating the league’s anti-drug policy. He apparently took a banned weight loss stimulant.
Anyway, here’s the real question: is Darius Miles the least accomplished player to ever be a member of Team Jordan? His competition is probably Jared Jefferies, Vin Baker (keep in mind that he signed with Jordan right around his overweight, alcoholic era), Bobby Simmons, Andruw Jones has been pretty bad since signing with Jordan, and Freddy Jones (it pains me to include a Duck on this list). What a veritable treasure chest of talent, but I think Miles’ lack of production combined with his cancerous effect on locker rooms makes him the clear cut winner.
