I agree with TJ. The author is clearly a lazy writer and knows nothing of Alkaline Trio.

@TJ: They're pop: rock-pop, indie-pop, maybe punk-pop, but pop nonetheless. And actually they've had 8 singles released to the radio including three ("we've had enough," "time to waste," help me") chart in the top 50 in the US. Perhaps their music not being played on the radio is more characteristic of its quality rather than a lack of genre. To say they're one of the most original bands of all time is a bit hyperbolic, there are a lot of bands out there, and they don't all limit themselves to one genre. And even Matt Skiba admits that they're heavily influenced by Green Day. And something can't be too dark and sadistic to be emo, that's what characterizes it as emo, regardless of how upbeat the music is. The style originally sprung from hardcore punk decades ago, so how fast the music is is pretty irrelevant. Also, Vagrant Records is one of the primary distributors of emo acts. Do you know who Alkaline's label is? Last, Alkaline Trio formed in 1996, so 12 years from the time I wrote the article. And I said they "came to prominence within the last ten years," which is exactly true. They were not extremely famous, or "prominent," before the late 90's.

I did that research in less than 30 seconds. I'm sorry that you've thrown in with a mediocre band. Everybody thinks that their favorite artist is the best, it doesn't make it true. Next time get some perspective before you come off sounding like a foolish fanboy. You would have been better off spending this time listening to 20 second iTunes previews of other bands and expanding your musical horizons a little bit if you were just going to approach this topic with such a nuthugger POV.

First of all I wouldn't really consider alkaline to be "pop", their music isn't really played on the radio that often, which is probably why you haven't heard of them. Second off, to say alkaline trio is "yet another" pop-punk band is very VERY insulting, alkaline trio is one of the most original bands of all time, no ones music is anything like theirs. Third, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, while alkaline does have a heart as part of their logo, they are anything but emo. They're music is way too up beat and their lyrics are far too dark and sadistic to be considered emo. They might have paved the way to the whole emo trend, but they definately didn't follow it. And lastly, alkaline trio has been around way longer than 10 years.

I get what your saying that you just wanted to write about it because of nike's involvement, but next time you might want to read up about something before you write something completely fictional about it and make yourself look stupid. You would have been better off not mentioning anything about alkaline at all, if you were gonna be too lazy to take 30 seconds to google them.
