To say they're one of the most original bands of all time is a bit hyperbolic, there are a lot of bands out there, and they don't all limit themselves to one genre. And even Matt Skiba admits that they're <em>heavily</em> influenced by Green Day. And something can't be too dark and sadistic to be emo, that's what characterizes it as emo, regardless of how upbeat the music is. The style originally sprung from hardcore punk decades ago, so how fast the music is is pretty irrelevant. Also, Vagrant Records is one of the primary distributors of emo acts. Do you know who Alkaline's label is? Last, Alkaline Trio formed in 1996, so 12 years from the time I wrote the article. And I said they "came to prominence within the last ten years," which is exactly true. They were not extremely famous, or "prominent," before the late 90's. I did that research in less than 30 seconds. I'm sorry that you've thrown in with a mediocre band. Everybody thinks that their favorite artist is the best, it doesn't make it true. Next time get some perspective before you come off sounding like a foolish fanboy. Second off, to say alkaline trio is "yet another" pop-punk band is very VERY insulting, alkaline trio is one of the most original bands of all time, no ones music is anything like theirs. Third, you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, while alkaline does have a heart as part of their logo, they are anything but emo. They're music is way too up beat and their lyrics are far too dark and sadistic to be considered emo. They might have paved the way to the whole emo trend, but they definately didn't follow it. And lastly, alkaline trio has been around way longer than 10 years.
