Not exactly Nike news, but a sneaker drop date nonetheless: Adidas will be releasing the Kevin Garnett TS Commander on Tuesday the 28th, opening night for the NBA. To commemorate KG’s first championship, they’ve made a special edition TS Commander with green and gold checked across the midsole, a gold Celtics logo on the heel, the word “champ” written inside the shoe, and Garnett’s face printed on the side. It will also consist of various scores, dates, stats, etc from the 2008 Finals written throughout the inside of the shoe. The special edition Commander will be limited to just 17–the number of titles Boston has won–and each will be signed by Garnett. The kicks will be available on the Celtics website and proceeds will go to the Celtics Shamrock Fund.
When I first saw this shoe, I thought it was for wide release, leading me to the conclusion that it’s one of the uglier shoes I’ve seen (there’s rarely an excuse to wear another dude’s face on your shoe). In hindsight and now realizing that they’re autographed and obviously a collector’s item, it’s kind of cool as a commemorative gimmick, especially with proceeds going to a local charity. Even better, it’s probably eating Paul Pierce alive that he’s been there for a decade, couldn’t get the team to the Finals, and it took them trading for an ATG to actually win the prize. And even when Paul Pierce is named the Finals MVP–Kevin Garnett gets all the credit, and justifiably so. I bet even Ray Benzino likes Kevin Garnett. Pictures from NiceKicks.com
