From the “Whoah” (to be spoken in Joey Lawrence’s voice) department: Nike has created the innovative new Nike Hindsight sunglasses. Made especially for bikers, they offer the wearer an extra 25° of peripheral vision on each side, allowing the wearer to theoretically see oncoming traffic and other bikers before it’s too late. The standard human viewing field is limited to 180°, but Nike’s use of the Fresnel lens allows for that extra 25° on each side, essentially creating a viewing field of 230°. Some clarity is lost in the peripheral area due to the distortion of the lens, but because the eye only detects motion in that area, there’s no noticeable negative difference. At this point I’m almost quoting Nike, so you might as well just read the diagram. The gist is that we are becoming superpowered: Man 1, Nature 0. These are just a concept prototype now, so you can’t replace your old spy-glasses yet, but hopefully they’ll drop in the near future.
