Nike Considered makes impact at Portland Fashion Week

by Sir Lucas Leftfoot on 2008/10/14

Continuing their move toward more sustainable business practices, Nike unveiled several new items from their Nike Considered line at Portland Fashion Week this past weekend. As has been mentioned on NikeBlog before, Nike has been trying innovative new manufacturing methods to incorporate recycled and reusable materials into their designs. As a leading sponsor of Portland Fashion Week, they were presented with a perfect forum to further their “green” ideology, being that it took place in Portland, Oregon where green isn’t a choice so much as a requirement. Nike has been establishing more environmentally-sustainable practices for the last decade and while Nike Considered began as a single line, according to Nike it is now meant to spread to the entire company, ideally meeting their minimum baseline by the year 2015.

Nike Considered’s showing at Portland Fashion Week had a very “80′s” feel to it, incorporating a lot of pastel-ish colors as well as leggings. All in all it seemed pretty well-received, although at one point a model sported what appeared to be dress socks with shorts. Some profits from Fashion Week went to support Portland-area nonprofit Children’s Cancer Association, of whom Nike is one of the larger corporate supporters. More on that later.
